OPEN Certified
Training Course
Case Study | Motion Graphic
OPEN (Online Physical Education Network) is a part of Varsity University, Varsity Brands’ educational ecosystem. OPEN creates free curriculum resources for the physical education community. In 2024, OPEN launched the OPEN Certified Teacher Training Course. This on-demand course enables physical education teachers to become OPEN Certified.
The Challenge
Improve the Quality of the Course
When OPEN was creating its first certification course, they had a structure established with 40 videos of varying lengths, but the videos were simple Zoom recordings. Since this was an official certification, they needed it to be more engaging, digestible and refined. (Screenshots below are from OPEN’s previous videos)
The Process
Creating Structured Layouts
The first step was to understand their current branding and visual elements through discussion with their team and my own research. Then, I created templates for the content that would be repeated across multiple videos: title cards, introductions and the main presentation/discussion sections. The layouts added more structure to the videos which keeps viewers engaged and focused on the speaker. The animated bullet points guide the viewer’s attention to important information. Next, I created a draft of one video and discussed the direction with the client to ensure it was aligned with their brand and goals. Once this direction was approved, I used the templates to edit all the different videos, making adjustments to the layouts when necessary. Using the same templated design for the entire course adds consistency across every video, giving it a more professional appearance.
The Result
560+ Course Completions & Testimonials
As of September 2025, the OPEN Certified Teacher Training Course has been available for just over a year, receiving over 560 course completions and positive testimonials. 96% of participants also gave the course 5 stars for quality satisfaction. This was a large scale project that pushed me to streamline my motion graphic workflow and create project-specific templates; skills I now bring to every future project.
